A PHILOSOPHY


Myriad is about design. Design in a conscious, deliberate and well considered way. Design is ubiquitous for human existence. In an architectural sense, often the best design solutions are those we enjoy without understanding. At Myriad, our goal is to create environments that achieve user comfort. Solutions that attract engage and energise; providing the user with a sense of confidence.


We love commercial design simply because we can create environments that achieve these effects on people; real spaces that help people achieve their business goals. We work on a diverse array of projects (70 or so each year) forming a team with the client that heavily invests their beliefs in a collaborative success. We feel kinda privileged with the work we do.

“What’s the big idea” is our ethos. The best design solutions are typically based on a simple idea so we seek that foundation for all our projects.

The final outcome evolves from this point; often borrowing or collating ideas from disparate sources, into a new and stronger amalgam. Every commercial project requires a return on investment, both in terms of tangible revenue growth and the harmony of the users; staff or customers alike. Typically, we don’t work with open budgets and maximizing the impact from the fitout ingredients is essential. A strong concept underpins the best solutions so a good design driven by a simple idea will succeed regardless of budget constraints.

Building a brand is integral to many of our project briefs. Whether the project is a professional office fitout or a casual cafe, the emotional experience is vital; as fundamental to all users; be it hospitality, retail or office environments. Brand awareness and the creation of indulgence opportunities are integral to our role – the architecture of seduction. Emotions play a crucial role in everyday experience.

Often we react unconsciously to our environment, as it can create a lingering memory luring a return, or it may well build a frustration through an inability to satisfy our expectations. The process of designing a commercial environment is the creation of context for an emotional experience. Positive outcomes result from a total experience and a successful environment establishes the ability to deliver this integral to a myriad project.

Our design goals are equally derived by surpassing client preconceptions. We like to push solutions beyond the easiest option. It can be said that convention is safe; creativity is courage. Outcomes that surprise typically are the strongest and those our clients are proudest of. At times, challenging the expectations of the user creates a memory that drives powerful brand affection. Desire, comfort and confidence are the emotions we engage.
